Privacy information
Last updated: 2 September 2026
This is a small academic website. It has no accounts, advertising, contact forms, behavioural profiling, or third-party analytics. It does not set analytics cookies, store an analytics identifier in your browser, or load an analytics tracking script.
Who is responsible
Tobias Felix Werner is the controller for the limited website analytics described below. For privacy questions or requests, email tobias.werner@mu.ie.
What is measured
When an HTML page is requested, the server adds one view to an aggregate counter. The counter contains only the calendar date, the page requested, a two-letter country code, and the number of views for that combination. The country code is supplied by the hosting network from the request’s approximate origin.
The site does not put IP addresses, user-agent strings, names, email addresses, or visitor identifiers into its analytics database. It therefore cannot recognise a person across pages, devices, or visits. The figures are page-view counts, not a count of unique people.
To protect the counters and the private statistics page from automated abuse, the server temporarily keeps a keyed, one-way representation of the requesting network address in memory. It is not written to the analytics database and expires within 15 minutes.
Purpose and legal basis
These minimal figures are used to understand the overall readership of the website and the countries from which it is viewed, and the temporary security information is used to prevent abuse. The legal basis is the controller’s legitimate interest in measuring, securing, and maintaining an academic website. The processing is deliberately limited to what is needed for those purposes and is aggregated or deleted promptly.
Cookies and consent
The site does not set or access analytics cookies, local storage, or similar browser storage, and it does not assign a visitor identifier. Ordinary HTTP request information is processed on the server as described above. No analytics tracking script is loaded, so the site does not present an analytics consent banner.
Hosting, recipients, and transfers
The hosting service and its infrastructure providers necessarily process limited technical request information, such as an IP address and browser headers, to deliver and secure the website. They act as service providers for website hosting and security. Where processing outside the European Economic Area occurs, the provider is used only where an applicable transfer mechanism is available, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses. Current provider and transfer information is available from the controller using the email address above. The website’s analytics database stores only the aggregate counters described above.
Retention
Aggregate daily counters are scheduled for deletion after 24 months. Cleanup runs when the service starts and once per day while it is operating. Temporary anti-abuse entries expire within 15 minutes. For information about the current hosting provider’s operational-log retention, contact the controller using the email address above.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Because the analytics database has no visitor identifier, it is normally not possible to connect an aggregate counter back to an individual. You may also lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission.
